CAN YOU SEE ME?
Djacarida Sama (age 2) has severe malnutrition and malaria. His blood pressure is measured at the UNICEF-supported district hospital in Koulikoro Region of Mali. Twenty-eight of the hospital’s child patients have malaria; six of them, including Djacarida, are in critical condition. Conflict in the country’s north, food shortages and inadequate basic services continue to exact a toll on Mali’s children.© UNICEF/Tanya Bindra

Finally!
Hi, everyone. I’m really happy to announce that after long last I have my full site up and running.
Heart • Hands • Eyes has been a very long time in the planning and I am so happy to see it live.
I love tumblr and will be using it daily, but the bulk of my original words, images, and work will be published first through my personal site to maintain ownership and copyright (reblogging on tumblr will of course still be OK!) and then I will post secondarily to tumblr.
Moving to Squarespace was the obvious choice for me because it offered a lot more of the power and creative control that I needed.
So at long last, Heart • Hands • Eyes.
Welcome.

Thyroid Embroidery (Like You Do) →

“Every year I make my friend, the Good Doctor, at least one piece of medically inspired embroidery. This year, after my thyroid starting giving me problems, I decided that the thyroid, and it’s immediately adjacent structure, the Larynx, would be my subject matter of choice…”
And every year i am very lucky. I treasure this wonderful collection of art that she’s made for me.

73 started. 37 finished. Great job all of them. Now I’m looking at one myself.
Honored
To start- thanks for today to some remarkable people who know who they are.
We were honored to be invited to the Zuni Reservation this evening by members of the Coyote clan to a dinner at their home and later to witness the Dances and blessings of the evening with the other members of the tribe. My sincere thanks to our hosts for welcoming us so warmly to their home and to the Zuni people for allowing us to be present for such a powerful moment.
Pictures were not allowed and I cannot describe what we saw, so I have nothing to share other than my awe and my thanks.

Not sure why they set that house on fire at the end, but whatever. Still great.
