The contents of an open Early Childhood Development (ECD) Kit.

The ECD Kit targets children under six years old who represent the highest percentage of those affected by today’s emergencies, including natural disasters, earthquakes, cyclones, war and conflict. The kits are stored and assembled at UNICEF Supply Division Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. Each box includes supplies for approximately 50 children. Costing US $230, it provides materials for a range of activities to encourage the development and social interaction of children including playing, drawing, and storytelling in the aftermath of disasters and civil conflicts around the world. Art materials include: wax crayons, safety scissors, coloured paper, glue, coloured pencils and erasers, adhesive tape and modelling clay. Play items include a jigsaw puzzle, building blocks, board puzzles, and a shape-sorter, Dominos, coloured wooden beads, a memory game, hand puppets, finger puppets and foam balls. Other items include exercise books, ball-point pens, UNICEF-T-shirts, coloured markers, carrying bags, a UNICEF water container and bars of soap. All components are supplied ready-packed in a light-weight metal, lockable, stackable storage box weighing approximately 33 kilograms.
